In the event of an electrical failure, a manual pump is needed to extend the landing gear. The emergency gear hydraulic system was redesigned for the VK-30 to incorporate a new valve package and hand pump. |
This rendering shows the new manual pump mounted to an aluminum plate which bolts into the floor. The fuel selector is mounted immediately behind the pump handle. |
Another rendering of the manual pump which also shows the check valve package. Four one-way check valves were incorporated in the design. Hydraulic fluid is pumped into the system on both the up and down strokes. Only 11 pumps are required to lock the gear for landing. |

The pump's handle is easily accessed by the pilot. Also note the fuel selector located immediately aft of the handle. |

With the floor removed, the check valve package can be seen to the right of the control cable pulleys. |
The check valve package can be seen peeking through the access panel which has been removed from the floor. |
