Ingress to the cabin occurs on the right side of the airframe via a clamshell door.

Rather than place stress on the lower half of the door, a seperate, free-standing airstair was designed.

After the airstair was designed in solidworks, the pieces were made, then welded together. Here, Tim is TIG welding the airstair while the pieces are firmly attached to a specially-made fixture.

The finished airstair, complete with aluminum step plates, is installed in the aircraft. Testing revealed the airstair was easily capable of withstanding 300lbs of weight.
To close the door, the pilot needs to fold the lower half of the airstair...
...then finally pull the door closed. The compact design still allows plenty of room for the rear passenger seating.
